Dr. Thomas Marshall, Class of 1971

Tom is a retired Navy captain who currently is a practicing surgeon at the Naval Medical Center GNS in San Diego.

He holds a B.S. in Biology from St. John’s University, where he graduated summa cum laude.  He received his M.D. from Thomas Jefferson Medical College.

While in the Navy,  Dr. Marshall served as Staff Surgeon, Alpha Surgical Company (front line MASH Unit) during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

His numerous military awards include: The Navy Commendation Medal (awarded for “valorous actions in direct contact with an enemy force”), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, a Presidential Unit Citation, and the Navy Unit Citation with Star.

From 2006-2008 Dr. Marshall served as Chairman of the Department of General Surgery at the United States Naval Medical Center in San Diego.
